Vayve Mobility, a Pune-based electric vehicle manufacturer, has launched the Eva, India’s first solar-powered electric car. This groundbreaking vehicle was showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 and is designed to cater to urban commuters looking for an eco-friendly alternative for city driving.
Design and Features
The Vayve Eva comes with a compact design that measures 3,060mm in length, 1,150mm in width, and 1,590mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,200mm. Its small size makes it perfect for maneuvering through congested city streets. The interior is designed to accommodate three passengers, with the driver’s seat positioned centrally and a rear bench that can seat two more passengers.
Inside, the Eva features two digital displays: one for the instrument cluster and another for the infotainment system, which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Additional comfort features include a six-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, automatic climate control, over-the-air updates, and a reverse camera, enhancing the driving experience.
Performance and Battery Options
The Vayve Eva offers three different battery configurations:
- 9kWh Battery: Offers a range of up to 125 km.
- 12.6kWh Battery: Provides a range of 175 km.
- 18kWh Battery: Delivers up to 250 km on a full charge.
The vehicle also features an optional solar roof that can add up to 10 km of range per day, which totals approximately 3,000 km annually. This innovative feature makes the Eva even more eco-friendly by harnessing solar energy to extend the vehicle’s range.
The Eva is equipped with a rear-wheel-drive motor that produces 40Nm of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in just 5 seconds. The top speed is 70 km/h, making it suitable for city commutes. The battery can be charged quickly, reaching 70% in just 15 minutes using a DC charger, or fully charged in 5 hours with a standard 15A household socket.
Pricing and Variants
Vayve offers the Eva in three variants, each catering to different needs:
- Nova: ₹3.25 lakh, with a 9kWh battery.
- Stella: ₹3.99 lakh, with a 12.6kWh battery.
- Vega: ₹4.49 lakh, with an 18kWh battery.
Additionally, an optional solar roof is available for the Nova and Stella variants for an extra ₹20,000, and for ₹25,000 for the Vega variant.
Safety and Production
Safety is a priority in the Vayve Eva, with features including a driver-side airbag and seatbelts for all passengers. The company plans to start mass production in mid-2024, with deliveries expected to begin in the second half of 2026. Initially, the Eva will be available in select cities, such as Pune and Bengaluru, with plans to expand nationwide over time.
Conclusion
